Will Bilawal Be The Good Sam?

The recent banners around Zardari House , Islamabad go as

یوتھ کا ایک ہی نعرا
بلاول بھٹو لیڈر ہمارا

Khawar Ghumman, a correspondent from dawn news, in an analysis of Bilawal's speech few days, ago cited a source from PPP saying that it was not just another speech but had more thought put into it than realized by people.

Rightly so, forasmuch as  his target was ,a force now to reckon with: youth, merged with rhetoric, he has every seduction for his generation, from solace for youth's anti-American sentiment to the provision for its antagonism towards the status-quo. Interestingly,  of which Junior Bhutto Zardari himself is a part.

As if, the lad himself is also muddled, while referring to the confusion of this generation he seemed to own that confusion by this means conveying a sort of camaraderie among youth. It was an effort to angle that he being a part of them shares the common problems and ideals as an ordinary Pakistani youth do. Ironic!

Keeping in mind that the young chairman of PPP wants to contest elections from 3 constituencies of which one is considered to be Punjab the audiences of his were students from Punjab. Therefore, on one hand there was something in offing for  head of biggest political party of Punjab, Nawaz Sharif. On the other hand he accommodated Imran Khan by voicing positive views about him, who also draws rather claims a major portion of his support from Punjab’s Youth.

However, by dragging Punjab and Nawaz Sharif as a part of incumbent national polity lead by PPP , a name now synonymous with corruption, he tried to make a point, alluded though, that PML-N is the beneficiary of current dispensation. Thereby, not only tried to damage the credibility of PML-N through attempting to increment league’s anti incumbency factor. But, by doing this he also indirectly but purposefully backed PTI’s stance i.e PPP and PML-N are alike, part of the problem not the solution. Same damaging “praise” for him is also recently extended by Syed Khurshid Shah.

To summarize following were the major points and objectives of Bilawal’s Speech.,

  1. Sharing youth problems. An image building exercise. A soft launch.
  2. Oral accomodation for Nawaz Sharif and Imran khan.Seduction of Punjab’s youth from PTI and PML-N
  3. Perplexing PTI  by striking with something unexpected, a knock for which they were unprepared i.e calling Imran Khan a positive force.
  4. Repetition of Drone Rhetoric. Space for anti-Americanism.
  5. Calling Nawaz Sharif an ally. Attack on his credibility.
  6. Casting a false impression of his own political maturity.

In the same setting a recent gimmick played by Pakistan Peoples Party that President Asif Ali Zardari will not campaign in the general elections is bit more than a media feeler thrown just to get the pulse of the masses. It may be one of the objectives but not the only one. In first place it's aimed to soothe the Judiciary who decided against political use of Presidential Palace, secondly it was indicative of decision of the party to (re)lauch Bilawal.

Howsoever, to his crowned head attitude, arrogance, continual emoting, and to his disconnect with the public at large save PPP ruling core, he is recipe for a looming failure. And party's expectation of Bilawal as Good Samaritan that attract its adversaries and rescue it in Elections is not more than a dream.
